Asian Performing Artists Lab (APAL) 2. Edtion
Asian Performing Artists Lab (APAL) offers Berlin/Germany-based artists with asian background a platform for creative exchanges, collaborations and experiments.
APAL takes place in cooperation with Berliner Ringtheater twice a year and each edition selects 5 projects from the applications submitted to the Open Call.
The participating artists of the 2nd edition are
Avrina Prabala-Joslin (India), Michiyasu Furutani (Japan), Nine Eglantine Yamamoto-Masson (Japan/France), Thủy-Tiên Nguyễn (Germany) und Wang Ping-Hsiang (+Tien Yi-Wei and Sum Sum) (Taiwan).
After the participating artists work together intensively over a four-day residency, they will present their works in progress this time on Zoom which follows by a discussion with the audience.
Asian artists often only get attention for their works, when they talk about certain topics, which are expected by the German majority, such as racism, migration, asian roots, etc. Their manifold artistic works are seldom funded and shown. One of the aims of the Asian Performing Artists Lab (APAL) is to support artists with an Asian background to create works that bring out a broader spectrum of Asian performances and voices, and to open up a self-determined space to develop their topics and aesthetics.
